Greyton Eco-Lodge offers affordable accommodation in the heart of one of South Africa’s most beautiful villages. The Eco-Lodge is situated on the edge of a nature reserve in the foothills of the Riviersonderend Mountains.

Formerly the Zebra Moon Backpackers Hostel, we at Greyton Eco-Lodge extend a warm welcome to backpackers, mountain bikers and guests wishing to enjoy all that our village and area has to offer. Come and visit our main attractions:

  • Unspoilt nature reserve with pristine fynbos
  • Historic Genadendal, home of South Africa’s first Mission Station, primary school, printing press and teacher training college
  • Family owned shops, restaurants, art and craft galleries along the oak lined streets of Greyton
  • Hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, dog walking trails and rivers to swim in
  • Full facilities in Greyton village including small friendly supermarkets, petrol station, post office, pharmacy and doctors’ surgery
  • We also welcome yoga, meditation and spiritual groups seeking basic but comfortable accommodation in a peaceful setting amidst nature at its finest.

We are extending the hostel’s facilities to offer a full programme of eco-activities that include:

  • Leadership games and courses for all ages
  • Guided educational hikes including fynbos, medicinal herbs and the night sky
  • Nutrition – healthy eating and cooking
  • Reduce Reuse Recycle at school, at work, at home, in your community
  • Humane Education – including care of pets, working animals and wild animals

  • Environmental awareness and mindfulness
  • Organic farming, permaculture, biodynamics, worm farms and composting
